Getting to and from Beziers Airport (BZR)

The airport is officially known as the Béziers Cap d’Agde Airport, as it serves the large town of Béziers and the nearby Languedoc coastal resorts, such as Cap d’Agde, and is assigned the airport code of BZR. It is a small French airport, with only around a hundred thousand passengers per annum, but is nonetheless an important gateway and establishment for tourism in the area. Several airline companies, including Ryanair and Flybe, which travel to destinations such as London and Dusseldorf, serve the airport and it is reasonably equipped with facilities for its passengers. The airport directions are simply to follow as well, since the airport is located nearby some prominent roads of the area.

The airport of Béziers is situated approximately 11.5km, or 6.2 miles east-southeast of Béziers, and in the Hérault department of France. It is also nearby to Vias, hence its former name of the Béziers-Vias Airport, Villeneuve-lès-Béziers, Portiragnes and Bessan. Béziers is found nearby the southern coastline of France, in the heart of the Languedoc-Roussillon region of the country, and larger cities in the area include Montpellier to the northeast, Narbonne to the southwest, Toulouse to the west and Clermont-Ferrand to the far north. The important roads leading to Béziers Airport include the D612, which passes the airport on its southern side, the D612A coming in from the north towards the east of the airport and the A9, which is the major Autoroute passing to the north of the airport grounds.

Directions from Béziers, Vias and Agde

When travelling from Béziers, the easiest route to follow is via the D612 motorway, which leads directly to the airport in the direction of Vias/Agde. Roads within the town that lead to the D612 are the D28 and the D612B. Along the way, motorists will pass Villeneuve-lès- Béziers, and the Canal du Midi on their right. Shortly thereafter, signs to the left indicate the direction to the airport, from here; it is about a five to fifteen minute drive.

Vias and Agde are located to the east of the airport, and the D912 is one of the more prominent roads to use when travelling for a departure flight. The D912 passes through the town of Agde, past Vias to the north and then links to the D612. Agde, or Cap d’Agde is a little more than 15km from the airport, and the drive will take between fifteen and twenty-five minutes, depending on traffic conditions.

Directions from the north

Areas to the north of the airport include Pézenas, and from here, motorists will take the D13 south towards Bessan, and either pass through Bessan and link to the D612A, or connect to the A9 and head towards Béziers. Pézenas is approximately 25km from the airport, and motorists will pass Saint-Thibéry along the way. From Pézenas, another large road leading towards Béziers and the airport is the A75, or the E11.

From areas further northeast, such as Nimes and Montpellier, motorists will use the A9 to reach Béziers. Montpellier is approximately 74km from Béziers Airport; however, both Montpellier and Nimes have their own airports. Areas further southeast of Béziers are reached by the A9 as well, such as Perpignan, approximately 75km away, and Narbonne, 30km from the airport. Other larger cities and towns and their distances from Béziers Airport include Bédarieux – 36km, Saint-Pons – 56km, Sète – 35km, Carcassonne – 80km and Millau – 100km.

The roads in and around Béziers can be busy during rush hour traffic times, therefore always leave in plenty of time to reach the airport, to find parking and to check-in for your departure flight. Alternative ways to reach the airport include by bus and taxi, but there is no train station at the airport. Buses travel from the bus station in Béziers, as well as from various other locations, such as from Vias and Cap d’Agde. Taxis are available as a more convenient, but a more expensive form of transport, from all nearby areas.

The airport consists of a single terminal building, with areas for arrivals and departures. There are two boarding lounges and four check-in desks at the airport, as well as various other facilities, which include a bar/quick service restaurant with an indoor and outdoor terrace, another bar in the departure lounge, a cash point, a few shops, Wi-Fi zones for free access to the internet throughout the terminal and scales for weighing of baggage which can be used free of charge. There are no full banking services or currency exchange services available. In the arrivals area, there is a tourist information desk and the car hire companies of the airport. Passengers with reduced mobility will find the terminal to be completely accessible, and can request further assistance from their airline company.

The physical address of the airport is Aéroport de Béziers, 34450 Portiragnes, and the staff at the information desk can be reached at 04 67 809 909. Further details regarding directions are available online, at http://maps.google.com.
